NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. -- Quite the party has been taking place in New Hartford for over four decades. It’s a tree party. On Friday morning, the Village hosted its annual Tree City USA gathering on the Village Green. Dozens of individuals of all ages participated by planting a tree. The Village takes pride in its tree designation, and Mayor Donald Ryan believes it is important to instill a love for, and appreciation of, trees in younger generations.

By Zach LewisClick here for updates on this story UTICA, New York (WKTV) — The beaver named Cauliflower, who escaped from his new habitat at the Utica Zoo back in April, was found dead this past weekend. Zoo officials report that Cauliflower was hit by a car on the Arterial near French Road. The zoo said that a good Samaritan brought him to the zoo, where he was identified through microchip technology. Cauliflower had arrived with two other beavers from a Minnesota zoo earlier this spring.

UTICA, N.Y. -- Although Arbor Day was this past Friday, today the City of Utica is honoring the occasion by planting trees at Kemble Park. Located at the intersection of Kemble and James streets, the park offers amenities like grills, tables and outdoor activities for children. The newly planted trees are part of a two-year initiative to add several thousand trees throughout Utica. Utica Mayor Mike Galime said that trees are not just a source of shade; they represent the future of the city.

ROME, N.Y. -- Although Tuesday's strong storms swept through the area without causing any reported injuries, a cherished holiday fixture is now gone. The Christmas tree, purchased and planted by the Rome Lion's Club in Veterans Park, was uprooted during the storm. The City's Department of Public Works has already cleaned up the area. The tree was planted in 1981, and its lighting has been a holiday tradition in Rome.

UTICA, N.Y. -- The wait is finally over. The Utica Children’s Museum is set to welcome visitors on Thursday, May 1. A ribbon was cut on Tuesday for the completion of a project that has spanned over five years. On March 4, 2020, the museum announced the closure of its previous location in Bagg’s Square to create a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility at the Parkway in Utica.
