Conservationists in Solomon Islands are questioning a decision by the Solomon Islands government to lift a ban on the harvesting of sea cucumbers. The ban which has been in place since 2022, after a study revealed a dwindling sea cucumber population.  The Government says the decision will economically benefit communities, but environmentalist Lawrence Makili (Mah-Kee-Lee) says it's unsustainable and threatens the species' survival.

Groundbreaking Māori scholar Mākereti Papakura will be posthumously awarded a degree from the University of Oxford nearly 100 years after starting her studies. Born in Aotearoa New Zealand in 1873, Papakura is believed to be the first Indigenous woman to attend Oxford, and her pioneering research on Māori culture has had a lasting impact on both academic and Māori communities.

A Tongan national is reportedly on the run in Sydney's west after two officials connected to Australian Border Force were allegedly stabbed and assaulted this morning. NSW Police officers were called to James Ruse Drive in Clyde about 4am to find a 54-year-old man stabbed in the cheek and neck and a 36-year-old man assaulted. The two men have been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

In New Zealand, three members of the Māori Party will be temporarily suspended from parliament over a haka performed during the first reading of the controversial Treaty Principles Bill last year.  Māori Party member Hana-Rawhiti Maipi Clarke will be suspended from the house for seven days for "acting in a manner that could have the effect of intimidating a member of the house".
