SCROLL DOWN TO READ ARTICLE Forty-one states and nine countries. By my count, that’s where my work travels took me during my 23 years with the Baltimore Sun. I was lucky. My time at the paper (1984-2007) coincided with a golden era for sportswriting, an era when editors at major newspapers didn’t blink at sending reporters and/or columnists to faraway places in search of good stories.

These attributes enabled him to lead an Oriole rebuild from incompetence to championship-level baseball. But I think these same attributes result in an excessive tinkering with the lineup, diminishing team success. What are the facts? Do the Orioles vary their lineup more than other MLB teams?

SCROLL DOWN TO READ ARTICLE What happened? Zach Eflin pitched six strong innings, allowing one run on four hits, throwing 73 pitches before leaving the game with right shoulder fatigue. The Orioles’ 5-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field on Monday night was perhaps the team’s most complete game of the season. Gunnar Henderson had two hits, scored two runs and stole two bases in his fourth start, but Eflin leaving the game early spoiled the win.
