    Essex Police, the fire service and the ambulance service are attending an incident on Wivenhoe Road after a digger was in a collision with a bus. The road is partially blocked and drivers are advised to "approach with care", says AA Live Traffic Map. Officers have closed a section of Wivenhoe Road to deal with the incident and remain on the scene. A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We remain on the scene of a serious collision between a bus and a digger near Alresford.

Magdalen Street, A134, is partially blocked with congestion in both directions after a crash this morning. The crash has happened close to Colchester Town train station. Congestion is reported between Wimple Road and Military Road, with slow traffic also reported on Mersea Road.

    Abberton Reservoir, Colchester, is home to many beautiful species of birds and attracts passionate photographers from across Essex. The 1,770-acre reservoir is a frequent spot for Danny Owen, a professional singer and actor with a passion for photography. Earlier this month, Mr Owen was at Causeway Bridge by the reservoir when he spotted a peculiar bird standing in shallow water.

    On Thursday, Fish On The Quay in Church Street, Maldon, was closed until further notice. Maldon District Council’s environmental health team obtained a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order (HEPO) from Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court. It means the restaurant had to immediately stop operating due to a serious and immediate threat to public health. The council said its officers "moved quickly" to ensure residents and visitors’ health was protected.

    The council handled 3,268 expenses claims in 2024/25 for 701 employees with a bill of £250,240. An audit discovered 40 per cent of claims did not have valid VAT receipts as required and found one expense claim where the claimant approved their own claim request. Audit officers also found expense claims were being approved by officers who “do not have delegated authority to certify them”.
