    Jaywick residents were upset to see the mural had black paint thrown over it after the community came together to create it as part of the Jaywick Sands Art Trail project. The mural, on the side of the Jaywick Beach Bar, was launched by Brazilian artist Ieda Lima-Boswell, owner of the Little Curiosity Spot, and features the beaches and beach huts of the town in bright colours. But the commemorative piece was covered in black paint in recent weeks.

    After attending the VE Day service in Westminster Abbey he made his way to Clacton to host a fundraising lunch for Jim O'Dwyer, 100. Mr O'Dwyer flew 31 missions as a rear gunner on a Lancaster bomber in the Second World War. The milestone event marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day, signalling eight decades since the end of the Second World War in Europe. It meant the end of six years of a war which had cost the lives of millions, destroyed homes, families and cities and brought huge suffering.

    Chris Pargin, 38, is conducting an academic evaluation of the economic benefits of FC Clacton to the community. The club faces eviction from its Rush Green Bowl stadium by landlords Tendring Council after an eviction notice is set to take effect in May. Chris, who played for FC Clacton at youth level and now lives in Colchester, is performing an economic impact assessment, which will conclude with a monetary benefit valuation.

    Frinton-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club will open its doors to the public on Saturday, May 17, from 11am to 4pm. The club, which was founded more than 125 years ago, is inviting people to come along and see what it has to offer. Visitors will be able to try out the club's facilities, which include the only grass tennis courts in Essex, as well as hard and covered courts. There will also be the chance to try out pickleball, a fast-growing racquet sport, and see the croquet lawn, squash courts, and gym.

    The feat, orchestrated by the Anytime Fitness team in Great Clacton, raised £1,145, surpassing the £1,000 target for the charity Mind. The challenge saw a ten-strong group set off from Clacton Pier at 4am on Saturday, May 3, to Walton Pier and back multiple times, clocking up a total of a million steps. Each member had to individually log 100,000 steps to reach the team's goal of one million. The challenge took around 15 hours on average for each person.
