Ferrari got off to a bad start in the Canadian Grand Prix when Charles Leclerc stacked his Ferrari within a few minutes of the first practice session. Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff branded Red Bull’s protest of George Russell’s Canadian Grand Prix victory ’embarrassing’ and said the attempt to overthrow the result was ‘petty’ by their championship rivals. Five and a half hours after the chequered flag fell in Montreal, the official result was confirmed after Red Bull lodged a protest claiming Russell had driven erratically under the late-race Safety Car.

Oscar Piastri is now over 20 points ahead of Lando Norris after the two title rivals clashed during the Canadian Grand Prix. Norris was chasing down Piastri in the final laps of the race for fourth place when the pair made contact on the start/finish straight, causing the Briton to retire on the spot and scored zero points. George Russell felt Norris was at fault for the collision because he went for a gap that didn’t exist, while F1 fans also praised Norris for owning up to the mistake.

The Canadian Grand Prix might not have been the most action-packed race, but it did produce two defining moments of the season. Andrea Kimi Antonelli took the first of what is likely to be many podiums in his F1 career for Mercedes, while Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri collided after battling for position. Norris held his hands up instantly after the crash, admitting it was his fault after he made contact with the rear of Piastri and trying to take away fourth place.
