WATERBURY - A vehicle struck a 14-year-old who ran into the street to retrieve an item on Pearl Lake Road Friday, but the child made it away with non-life-threatening injuries, according to city police. Waterbury Police Lt. Ryan Bessette said the collision took place at about 6:20 p.m. Friday, and the driver remained on scene. He said the child was taken to a local hospital and is considered to be in stable condition. The driver was not injured, according to police.

WILLIMANTIC - Police arrested an 18-year-old Coventry resident this week on a series ofreckless driving chargesafter he nearly struck a state trooper prior to a car chase earlier this year. The suspect, Matthew Wall, had blown by a crash scene in his pickup truck on Route 89 in Ashford in March before escaping in a chase that reached up to 98 miles per hour on Interstate 84, according to a state police arrest warrant affidavit.

EAST HARTFORD - A driver struck an East Hartford police cruiser and fled the scene for the highway in the early morning hours Saturday, according to police. East Hartford Police Officer Marc Caruso said the driver struck the front fender of an officer's cruiser near the 100 block of Silver Lane and proceeded to the ramp for routes 5 and 15. He said the officer was not injured, and the driver did not stop.

NEW HAVEN - A driver struck and killed a 50-year-old man in a wheelchair near the middle of Dixwell Avenue Saturday morning, according to city police. New Haven police said they were dispatched at around 3:43 a.m. to the 100 block of Dixwell Avenue in response to a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

THOMASTON - A car crash on Route 8 in Thomaston resulted in serious injuries and a blocked highway early Saturday morning, according to Connecticut State Police. State police said troopers responded at about 3:15 a.m. to a one-car motor vehicle collision on the the northbound side of Route 8 in the area of Exit 40. They said the highway was closed at Exit 40 for an investigation as of 8:33 a.m. and asked the public to find another route.
