    WASHINGTON (AP) - A new humanitarian organization that has U.S. backing to take over aid delivery to starving civilians in Gaza said Wednesday that it expects to begin operations before the end of the month - after what it describes as key agreements from Israeli officials.     Telecommunications giant Verizon has gotten tentative approval from state utility regulators to acquire Frontier Communications assets in Connecticut. The purchase is part of a much larger $20 billion acquisition spanning the United States. The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority issued its tentative ruling in the case late Monday. Written exceptions or objections that any of the parties involved may want to submit are due May 21, with a final decision scheduled for June 11.

    WATERBURY - An 11-year-old bicyclist suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a motorist, according to Waterbury police. The crash occurred at around 7:50 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Old Colony Road, Waterbury police Lt. Ryan Bessette said. The motorist remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, Bessette said. Bessette said the victim "was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment."The investigation remains ongoing, Bessette said.

    GLASTONBURY - Two residents of a Margaret Lane house were displaced by a fire that broke out Tuesday night, an official said. Dispatchers received reports of the fire in the 40 block of Margaret Lane around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, Glastonbury Fire Chief Michael Thurz said. Light smoke was coming from the house's front door when crews arrived, Thurz said, but the fire was found in the rear of the house and quickly put out by crews.
