    Lawmakers tried to tackle the problem of truancy and chronic absenteeism in Texas during the last legislative session, but many proposed laws failed to pass. However, one bill is now on Governor Greg Abbott’s desk waiting to be signed. Senate Bill 991 was filed by State Senator Paul Bettencourt (R) Dist. 7, who has worked on truancy and chronic absenteeism legislation the past two sessions. The bill now requires school districts to collect data on both chronically absent and truant students.

Dr. Quianta Moore, Executive Director of the Hackett Center for Mental Health has researched early childhood development and created a program to help children succeed. The program is called Brain Builders.

    Published: June 5, 2025 at 10:06 AMHOUSTON, Texas – Three people were hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after aerosol mace was sprayed on a Houston METRO train. METRO officials said the incident occurred around 1:40 p.m. on the Red Line at Preston Station. Authorities are still looking for the person or persons responsible for spraying the substance on the train, but as of Thursday morning, no arrests have been made.
