A special ceremony was held Thursday evening by Sedalia Parks & Rec to celebrate the recently completed $2.6 million renovation of Dey Field at Liberty Stadium, built in 1937 as a Works Progress Administration project. Professional Contractors and Engineers (PCE), Columbia, was the general contractor on the project. Work began Aug. 7 and was originally expected to be finished by May 22, but was pushed back. The ceremony took place on the last day of spring.

Juneteenth was celebrated last Saturday at Hubbard Park with plenty of food, music, games, face painting and a ground-breaking ceremony. The ceremony, organized by the NAACP and the Juneteenth Committee, celebrated the start of the North Central Sidewalk Project. Juneteenth, which is officially recognized today (Thursday, the 19th) is normally observed in Sedalia on the Saturday before or after the official federal holiday.

The City of Sedalia’s new Macro Paver was on display Monday evening prior to a City Council meeting outside the Municipal Building, 2nd and Osage. The purchase of the brand new and very clean macro paver was approved in the FY26 City budget and was also identified as a priority in the Council’s budget planning session earlier this year.

A celebration of life for William "Bill" Joseph Marquess, 53, of Smithton, will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, June 21 at Rea Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel. The family of Debra Williams, 73, of Green Ridge, will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. Monday, June 23 at Parkview Christian Church, where memorial services will begin at 2 p.m. Arrangements are in care of Heckart Funeral Home.

Cheryl Ames began her term of local government service Monday night after being sworn in as Sedalia’s newest City Council member by City Clerk Jason Myers. Ames was one of four finalists who competed for the empty seat in the First Ward, which was vacated when former First Ward Councilman Tom Oldham abruptly resigned his position on April 24 after “serious allegations” were leveled against him. After being officially sworn in, Ames then headed back to her seat.
