    Funeral arrangements have been announced for Burleson County Sheriff Gene Hermes, who passed away last week at the age of 59 after a battle with cancer. Hermes had served as the sheriff of Burleson County since March 2020. His law enforcement career included time with the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office, Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Caldwell Police Department. He was also a volunteer with the Caldwell Fire Department and served as Caldwell’s fire marshal.

Washington County Commissioners approved a sublease agreement today (Tuesday) with Mike Hopkins Distributing for 0.209 acres of land adjacent to the EMS station at 1875 Highway 290 West.

    Washington County Commissioners approved the disbursement of hotel occupancy tax (HOT) grant funding for the fall 2025 cycle today (Tuesday). The court awarded $25,181 in HOT funds to three organizations to assist with the promotion of events or the mitigation of costs associated with special projects or operating expenses.  Five requests were made for $45,681, with two being funded entirely, one receiving partial funding, and two not fulfilled.

    TxDOT will start a mill and inlay project tomorrow (Wednesday) on a section of Highway 290 on the east side of Brenham. TxDOT will have daily lane closures on Highway 290 from Gun and Rod Road to Indian Paint Brush Road. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Drivers are asked to be patient when driving through the area and to watch for traffic control messages. The project is contracted to Cornerstone Paving and Construction for $1.3 million.
