    Grimes County, Tx (FOX44) – A man who led DPS troopers on a thirty mile chase in three counties will be spending 15 years in a state jail. After entering a guilty plea to felony evading arrest in a vehicle and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, 39-year-old Justin Dean Ownbey was sentenced. On January 27, 2024 DPS Trooper Eric Cisneros observed a vehicle going 90 miles per hour in a 75 mile zone. The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver failed to pull over.

    Waco, Tx (FOX 44) – A female Waco police officer broke in to a room to rescue a man during a fire at the Sandman Motel early Friday morning. Fire units were called to the Sandman Motel at 3820 Franklin Avenue at 2:07 a.m. Friday. The first units arrived just three minutes later, but already the officer had broken into the room where the fire had broken out. Interim Fire Chief Robby Bergerson said arriving firefighters initiated a fire attack and search-and-rescue operations in adjacent rooms.

    Killeen, Tx (FOX 44) – Killeen police confirm one 47-year-old man has died following a Thursday evening shooting on Gray Street. Police were called to the 600 block of Gray at 7:28 p.m. and found the victim when they arrived. Killeen Fire Department EMS personnel also responded and began life-saving measures. The victim was transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in critical condition, where he later died. Police said one person was being detained in connection with the case.

    Todd Mission, Tx (FOX44) – A Plantersville man died Thursday evening when his motorcycle was hit head on by an SUV trying to pass three vehicles on a county road. DPS Sgt Justin Ruiz said it happened on Grimes County Road 302 near Todd Mission about 8:12 p.m. Thursday. Sgt Ruiz said a 2002 GMC Yukon driven by a 19-year-old woman was going west on the county road and attempted to pass three vehicles and met the motorcycle head-on at the crest of a hill.
