People across social media responded angrily after a Republican Nebraska Senator’s husband neglected to shake Vice President Kamala Harris’s hand after Harris swore his wife into office. Sen. Deb Fischer was sworn in for her third term by Harris during a ceremony on Jan. 3 in Washington, D.C., Newsweek reported. Afterward, Harris shook her hand and reached out to shake her husband’s hand. “May I give congratulations to you?” Harris said to Bruce Fischer.

Just 3% of businesses in New Jersey were Black-owned, according to the latest Census figures. Some 6,213 businesses in the state were owned by Black people in 2022 compared to 140,444 owned by their white counterparts, who account for 75% of the 185,417 businesses in New Jersey. New Jersey ranked 15th for most Black-owned businesses. The District of Columbia had the highest percentage of Black-owned stores, shops, or companies at 12.92%.

Five movies featuring Latino actors in lead roles have been inducted into the National Film Registry for the first time in history. Each year, the Library of Congress selects 25 films that showcase the range and diversity of American film heritage to increase awareness for its preservation in the National Film Registry, according to the Library of Congress’ website.
