Three years ago Sunday, the Phillies won their series finale over the Giants, and it did little — if anything — to improve morale. They moved to 22-29, six games out of a Wild Card spot and 12.5 out of the NL East lead. It was the last game in Joe Girardi’s tenure as manager. The Phillies lost their fourth straight game on Sunday to cap off a sweep by the Brewers. It moved them to 36-23. The point of the non-parallel: Things could be worse.

PHILADELPHIA — Phillies manager Rob Thomson was ejected in the top of the fourth after his soon-to-be beaten and battered starting pitcher had a questionable balk called against him. Third base umpire Derek Thomas believed Luzardo stopped at the top of his leg lift. “That’s the first time I’ve ever heard that,” Thomson said. Jesús Luzardo didn’t need to look at the numbers to know that Saturday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers was the worst outing of his career.

PHILADELPHIA — Phillies manager Rob Thomson was ejected by crew chief Dan Iassogna in the fourth inning of Saturday’s game against the Brewers after arguing a balk call against Jesús Luzardo. Luzardo originally had the first out of the inning on a pickoff play, but the runner Brice Turang was called back to second on the balk call. It’s the fifth time Thomson has been ejected as Phillies manager. The call made a disasterous inning even worse.

PHILADELPHIA — Christian Yelich homered twice, Taijuan Walker struggled to go deep into the game and the Phillies (36-21) couldn’t stop pounding the ball into the ground in a 6-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers (30-28) on Friday night at Citizens Bank Park. Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester recorded 18 outs against the Phillies. Sixteen of them came on the ground. The 24-year-old Priester put on a masterclass on how to pitch to the Phillies.
