The Cincinnati Reds activated Jeimer Candelario from the injured list this afternoon and then designated him for assignment. The 2025 season started out about as poorly as one could imagine for Candelario. The infielder hit .113/.198/.213 with 29 strikeouts in 22 games. He went on the injured list after the first month of the season with a lumbar spine strain. Candelario didn’t take the field for the next five weeks, but on June 2nd he got back into the lineup for the Arizona Complex League Reds.

Cincinnati got enough done on offense to pick up a 4-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday afternoon as they avoided the sweep.

The team also optioned right-handed pitcher Chase Petty to Triple-A.

The Cincinnati Reds are calling up top prospect Chase Burns to start against the New York Yankees on Tuesday. This was first reported by C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic. Less than a year ago the Reds selected Chase Burns with the #2 overall draft pick and then gave him the largest signing bonus in the history of the draft. Given a long season at Wake Forest in 2024, Burns didn’t pitch after being drafted.
