RTÉ One
RTÉ One is the flagship television channel of Ireland, operated by RTÉ and available for free. Launched on December 31, 1961, as Telefís Éireann, it was renamed RTÉ in 1966 and became RTÉ 1 when RTÉ 2 was introduced in 1978. The channel is primarily funded by a government licence fee, supplemented by commercial advertising, which allows it to air fewer ads compared to most other channels in Ireland and Northern Ireland. The channel reaches 98% of the Irish population in high definition through the Saorview DTT service. Viewers in Northern Ireland can also access RTÉ One via Saorview, Freeview, Sky, and Virgin Media cable. Additionally, the channel's content is available online through the RTÉ Player.

The Economic and Social Research Institute has downgraded its forecast for house building and growth in the domestic economy for this year. It is the second organisation to reduce its projections after the Central Bank reached a similar conclusion last week. The ESRI said it expected 33,000 homes to be built this year, which is 1,000 less than it previously forecast. It would be far short of the Government's current target of 41,000.

A lorry driver has described how he reversed his vehicle up to a burning building in Dublin city centre to save a man trapped on the third floor. Tomasz Zereba, was delivering groceries for Eurospar when he drove on to Granby Street on Monday. In a statement, issued through his employer, he said: "I saw the flames coming up from the window and one guy was lying on the footpath. He had blood on his face, and I think he might have broken both his legs when he jumped from the building.

Sinn Féin has insisted that it would have abstained on the renewal of the Offences against the State Act but it was ultimately not put to a vote after the party's Justice spokesperson was outside the Dáil chamber when it was passed. Matt Carthy had "stepped out" for a few minutes during the debate on the emergency measures that are renewed by the Oireachtas annually. When he returned, to an almost empty Dáil, he was told by the Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy that the matter had been dealt with.
