RTÉ One
RTÉ One is the flagship television channel of Ireland, operated by RTÉ and available for free. Launched on December 31, 1961, as Telefís Éireann, it was renamed RTÉ in 1966 and became RTÉ 1 when RTÉ 2 was introduced in 1978. The channel is primarily funded by a government licence fee, supplemented by commercial advertising, which allows it to air fewer ads compared to most other channels in Ireland and Northern Ireland. The channel reaches 98% of the Irish population in high definition through the Saorview DTT service. Viewers in Northern Ireland can also access RTÉ One via Saorview, Freeview, Sky, and Virgin Media cable. Additionally, the channel's content is available online through the RTÉ Player.
