The Michigan Daily

The Michigan Daily

The Michigan Daily serves as the official student newspaper for the University of Michigan, with its inaugural issue released on September 29, 1890. This newspaper operates independently in terms of finances and editorial content from the university’s administration and student organizations. It is located in the same building as various other student publications at 420 Maynard Street, which is situated north of the Michigan Union and the Huetwell Student Activities Center. In 2007, the historic site at 420 Maynard underwent renovations that were completely funded by generous alumni donations. To celebrate the completion of these renovations, a reunion took place from October 26-28, 2007, bringing together staff members from The Michigan Daily, the Michiganensian yearbook, and the Gargoyle humor magazine.

Last offseason, the Michigan men’s and women’s basketball teams’ rosters were in a similar state. Whether it was due to a coaching change or a throng of players heading to the transfer portal, both rosters entered this season with just two returning players who averaged at least nine minutes per game during the 2023-24 season. To fill in their rosters, men’s coach Dusty May and women’s coach Kim Barnes Arico took different approaches.

On Friday afternoon, about 50 students attended the University of Michigan’s Student Life Sustainability hosted “A Carnival Built in H&!!: Responding to the Climate Crisis,” a circus-themed drop-in event including games, popcorn and discussions on the climate crisis at the Palmer Commons. The event featured colorful tables highlighting different U-M- and Ann Arbor-focused sustainability initiatives. The groups — including the Kiwanis Thrift Sale store, the University’s Campus Farm Club, the Michigan Sustainability Community, Intergroup Relations program, a joy mapping initiative and more — offered insight into the climate crisis, mutual aid and other climate disaster-related information.
