LAWRENCE—Kansas basketball’s stay in the NCAA tournament in recent years hasn’t been very long, for various reasons. Following the national championship run in 2022, coach Bill Self’s squad hasn’t reached the second weekend of the NCAA tournament. Both 2023 and 2024 saw the Jayhawks drop out in the round of 32, first as a No. 1 seed and then as a No. 4 seed. This past season, in 2025, they didn’t even make it past the round of 64 as a No. 7 seed.

Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach requested a federal investigation into four Kansas school districts regarding their transgender student policies. Kobach alleges the districts' policies violate FERPA and Title IX by concealing information from parents and compromising student privacy. Some of the districts maintain policies allowing students to use facilities aligning with their gender identity, not their sex assigned at birth.
