Practice Begins for Indy 500

(Speedway, IN) – Today marks the official beginning of preparations for the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500. Drivers and teams begin practicing for the big race. They will practice each day this week from Noon to 6-pm. Saturday will mark the beginning of qualifying with Sunday being the Fast 12 for the pole as well as the Last Row Shootout. BMS Golf Completes Undefeated Season

(Batesville, IN) – The Batesville Middle School golf team capped off an undefeated season when they took first place at the Batesville Invitational Monday night at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club. BMS Team 1 brought home the championship trophy with a team score of 177, led by individual girls’ medalist Stella Maple (42) and Beckett Jones (43). Jax Negovetich and Evan Ibold each contributed a 46 to round out the team score, while Cade Rienschield added a round of 47.

The school’s 2025 Science Fair on May 6 was a culmination of months of research and data analysis from the seniors and juniors. Jackson County Man Sentenced in 1982 Cold Case Homicide

(Jackson County, IN) – A man in Jackson County was sentenced to 18 years in prison for the 1982 killing of a Seymour man. The victim, Clifford Smith, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head near the White River. Over the years, the cold case was passed to new investigators. Sgt. Kip Main with the Indiana State Police Versailles Post took up the investigation in September 2015, with assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Seymour Police Department.

(Indianapolis, IN) – 52-year-old David Joseph Mull of North Vernon was sentenced to four years in prison followed by two years of supervised release after pleading guilty to unlicensed dealing in guns. According to court documents, Mull illegally sold hundreds of firearms without having a license, including to a trafficker moving guns to Mexico. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated this case. The sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge James Sweeney II.
