An application submitted to the council in November explains that much of the site, which was closed by the soft drinks firm in January 2014, stands empty. The ground floor is occupied by a business handling textiles products and a charity that supports homeless people, with the first and second floors unoccupied.

    Accommodation that has housed thousands of Huddersfield’s students is to be torn down, as plans for a new housing estate get the green light. The decision was made today (April 10) by Kirklees Council’s Strategic Planning Committee, with the applicant, Ubrique Investments Ltd, being granted outline planning permission for a development of up to 261 homes at Storthes Hall, Kirkburton.

    A stark warning has been issued to Kirklees residents who may be inadvertently risking a fine by using unregistered waste removal carriers. This comes as a Ford Transit Van - connected to a person posing on social media as a registered carrier - has been confiscated by Kirklees Council, after being linked to three fly-tipping incidents where rubbish was dumped in Thurstonland, Golcar and Huddersfield town centre.
