Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan said it eliminated more than 400 open positions this week. More than 500 employees elected to take a buyout that it offered to its nonunion employees in January. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan laid off nearly 220 nonunion employees and eliminated more than 400 open positions the week of June 9 as the health insurer looks to cut $285 million in administrative costs this year, the company confirmed on Wednesday, June 11.

More than 60% of Michigan businesses import goods from other countries, according to a recent survey by the Michigan Retailers Association. The majority of retailers the MRA surveyed are changing or delaying orders from suppliers in other countries. The MRA survey found that two-thirds of retailers are raising prices. When John Murray and his wife started their baby store, Modern Natural Baby, in Ferndale 16 years ago, their goal was not to bring in any products from China.
