Two cases of measles reported in Cass County, North Dakota

CASS COUNTY, N.D. (KVRR) — Two cases of measles are being reported in Cass County. This brings the total number in the state to 11 for 2025. Last week, we told you about nine cases in Williams County. Both people in Cass County were unvaccinated and infected through international travel. One of them is in the hospital.

BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — There are now nine cases of measles in North Dakota. That number is up from the four we told you about yesterday. North Dakota Health and Human Services says all of the new cases are people who are unvaccinated and had no reported contact with previously identified cases. They say that people at the Williston Walmart on April 29 between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. may have been exposed. Four of the infected people were in Williston schools while infectious.
Fire at Hankinson building; 5 businesses with smoke & water damage

HANKINSON, N.D. (KVRR/KFGO) — Five businesses have smoke and water damage after a fire breaks out in Hankinson Friday afternoon. The Richland County Sheriff’s Office says the call came in just after 4 p.m. for smoke seen coming out of the windows at 101 1st Street Northeast. Hankinson Fire and Lidgerwood Fire responded to the scene. No one was inside the building. A damage estimate is not yet available.
Minnesota State Trooper charged with production of child porn

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KVRR) — A Minnesota state trooper has been charged in federal court with production of child pornography. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Jeremy Plonski was arrested and will remain in custody pending a detention hearing. He was taken to the Sherburne County Jail in Elk River, which has a contract to hold federal prisoners.
Winning $100,000 Powerball ticket sold in Jamestown

BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — It is the start of a new month and someone is $100,000 richer. The lucky Powerball ticket with Power Play was sold at a Hugo’s in Jamestown. The winning numbers were 1, 2, 3, 57, 59, and the Powerball was 9. That store will get a $2,000 bonus for selling the ticket. Check your purses and wallets. If you have the winning ticket, you must claim your prize at the North Dakota Lotteryoffice within 180 days of the draw.
North Dakota House kills bill to increase speed limit to 80 mph on interstates

BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — The North Dakota House kills an amended bill that would’ve increased the speed limit on interstates to 80 miles per hour. It was a close vote of 46 to 45. Forty-eight votes were needed for the bill to move on. The bill would’ve also fined speeders $5 for every mile per hour over the speed limit and increased the number of points drivers would lose off their license for various infractions. A similar bill was vetoed by then Gov.
Republican Keri Heintzeman wins MN Senate District 6 seat in special election

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KVRR/FOX 9) — In a special election, Republican Keri Heintzeman won the Minnesota Senate District 6 seat to replace the spot left open by Justin Eichorn. She went up against challenger Denise Slipy, the DFL candidate, in the election. The results showed a 60 percent to 40 percent margin. Heintzeman is the wife of Rep. Josh Heintzeman, the Minnesota House rep for the Brainerd area. Eichorn resigned after he was arrested and charged in an underage prostitution sting in Bloomington.
Fargo man sentenced to 32 years in prison for having child pornography

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — A judge sentences a Fargo man to 32 years in prison followed by a lifetime of supervised release for having materials depicting the sexual exploitation of minors. Dustin Fredrickson, 37, is also ordered to pay $18,000 in restitution to the victims identified in the videos and pictures. He pleaded guilty in November.

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — A Fargo man is sentenced to over four years in prison for having a stolen gun as a felon. Kadar Pearson, 21, pleaded guilty in November. Last June, Fargo Police responded to shots-fired in the area of the Arbors apartment complex. They saw Pearson wearing a sweatshirt with something in the pocket and a ski-mask over his face. He fled from officers and threw a gun underneath a parked vehicle.
West Fargo dermatology clinic is offering free skin cancer screenings

WEST FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — A new dermatology clinic in West Fargo wants to check you for skin cancer. In recognition of Melanoma Monday and National Skin Cancer Awareness Month, Mosaic Dermatology is offering free screenings on Monday, May 5. Dr. Joanne Montgomery will be providing professional skin evaluations from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The clinic is located at 567 32nd Avenue East, Suite 100. Melanoma is one of the most dangerous forms of skin cancer, but when caught early, it’s highly treatable.
