    In 2020, the University of Alaska Anchorage cut several academic programs due to the state’s fiscal crisis, including the theater degree. Then the COVID-19 pandemic hit and theater companies had to find new ways to hold on. Now local theater companies are struggling to staff productions due to a limited pool of talent, but, coming this fall, UAA will be offering several theater courses including technical and acting classes.

    "Dial M for Murder" is a classic crime thriller based in the 1950s about a murder plot gone awry and the resulting investigation. Outside of the theater, the play was made famous with Alfred Hitchcock's film adaptation starring Grace Kelly. Cyrano's Theater Company opened their run of the play on May 9 and it runs through June 1. For this production, Cyrano's is using an updated adaptation by Jeffery Hatcher from Frederick Knott's original script.

    Author Aurora Hardy's previous work “Windswept : Chitina Alaska Childhood” and “Windswept : Tales for Children” reflect on her childhood of growing up in a remote cabin near Chitina, Alaska. One is a memoir and the other is for kids, both illustrated by her son Pyrce Raphael.

The series features renowned writers discussing and reading their work in an intimate virtual setting. This episode includes poets W.J. Herbert, George Bilgere, Shara McCallum, Doug Ramspeck and Julie Danho. Alaska Quarterly Review editor-in-chief Ronald Spatz hosts each program.
