Once part of the RAF’s Air Sea Rescue service, the 63-foot “whaleback” rescue boat, believed to be the last of its kind, was discovered half-sunk in the Norfolk Broads. Named for their appearance, whalebacks were designed to cut across rough seas at high speed to reach downed pilots whose planes had ditched into the water.

A chorus of bell-ringing and booming voices echoed through the streets as town criers from across the UK descended on a seaside town to compete for a prestigious title. Cromer was treated to a vibrant spectacle as town criers gathered to compete in the Loyal Company of Town Criers British Championship 2025. The competition began with a colourful “bells-up” parade through the town, as the criers marched in full regalia to the Cromer Pier forecourt.

The row began in December when strong winds brought down a large tree from the grounds of Dereham St Nicholas Bowls Club during Storm Darragh. The tree landed across Wakes Lane alley, which runs between the club and St Nicholas House Residential Care Home, causing damage to the home’s wall and a tree on its own grounds.

HMP Bure, a Category C prison in Badersfield, will see half of its existing polymeric pitch replaced with Astroturf and a perimeter fence installed. Based on the former site of RAF Coltishall, is a specialist unit exclusively holding men convicted of sexual offences. The work, scheduled to begin this summer, is intended to make the pitch usable all year round. According to documents seen by the i Paper, officials argue the project is necessary to provide consistent access to outdoor space.

The new conveniences in Albert Street were officially opened on May 24, replacing the old block which was badly damaged in 2022 when a Volvo crashed into it. Since then, the old block was demolished and temporary toilets were installed in the car park, while plans were drawn up for a permanent replacement.
