A RED carpet will be laid over the platform at Barnsley station next week when one of the world’s most luxurious trains makes a rare visit to the town. The 1930s’ Pullman-style Northern Belle will pick up passengers to take them on a trip through the Yorkshire Dales and over the spectacular Settle-Carlisle line for a steam-hauled champagne day out.

BARNSLEY College students showcased their talents at a recent exhibition. The A level Fine Arts students’ work was featured at the Sixth Form Art and Design exhibition. The artwork on display encompassed a wide range of techniques and processes, with the work showing a range of key skills in drawing, painting, print, 3D, photography and digital processes.

A SMITHIES man charged with assault by beating has changed his plea to guilty – and will appear in court later this month. Aaron Bettley, 28, of Wakefield Road, was charged following an incident on September 27. He originally pleaded not guilty in February but at a hearing at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday he changed that plea. He will appear at the same court on June 26. A BARNSLEY man who reportedly breached his criminal behaviour order will appear in court next week.

A BARNSLEY man was yesterday jailed for his part in the violent disorder at Manvers last summer. Dion Wragg was captured on CCTV taking part in the violence at the Holiday Inn Express in Manvers, on Sunday August 4. The 26-year-old was recorded launching debris at police officers who were protecting the hotel and its occupants. Following the disorder, images of potential suspects were released in a media appeal - with a member of the public identifying Wragg from one of the photos.

BARNSLEY Museums is celebrating the milestone of two million visitors in 2024-25. This is the first time, in the council’s records, that the Museums’ service has reached this number in a year. It beats last year’s 1.9 million visitors and impressively surpasses pre-COVID levels of 1.3 million.
