    Photographer Ramin Samandari has been taking portraits of friends and family as part of his practice for years. However, the ritual gained newfound meaning when his mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in 2017. Samandari's current exhibition, The Long Goodbye at San Antonio's Magical Realism Studio, is a series of portraits of his mother from 1997 to his most recent visit in April 2025. His mother lives in Canada, and he is only able to visit a few times a year.
