SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s the first state to ban fluoride in drinking water, a move several dental clinics and health groups said will hurt low-income Utahns who can’t afford to go to the dentist on a regular basis. “[Fluoridated water] is meant to provide, kind of, a base level of protection that benefits everybody, regardless of your income, your ethnicity, your gender, your age. It helps everyone,” said Sasha Harvey, executive director of Salt Lake Donated Dental Services.

As the bills made their way through the Legislature this year, they generated significant public interest. To find out what feedback key lawmakers were receiving about the bills, KSL TV asked for and received correspondence about the proposals through a public record request.
