MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Hamilton County, Tennessee, is 358 miles from Memphis. Attorneys traveled there to find a jury for the 3 officers on state trial in the Tyre Nichols beating death. MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Several members of the clergy have been getting an up-close look at police work over the last few weeks. The Clergy Academy is a chance for religious leaders to hear from and even ride along with police to experience crime-fighting firsthand. The 15th session of the Memphis Police Department’s Clergy Academy is a six-week course with a full 12 hours of curriculum, where officers break down police work from sex crimes to domestic violence.

4:27 p.m.: Court is done for the day. It will resume at 9 a.m. Tuesday. 3:17 p.m.: The state calls its first witness, RowVaughn Wells, who is Tyre Nichols’ mother. She testified that she moved to Memphis in 2008. Her son worked at FedEx and was training to drive forklifts. About 8:30 or 8:45, she and her husband got a knock on their door at home as they got ready to watch a basketball game. It was Memphis Police officers, who asked them whether Tyre Nichols lived there.

Now, we’re learning more about who was behind the wheel and the two innocent people who were left injured. Traffic was at a standstill on Interstate 240 and Airways after a horrifying accident on Easter Sunday. Vehicles were crushed, belongings were scattered and injured people were lying on the grassy median.
