RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — From the Sandhills to the eastern stretches of the CBS 17 viewing area, an overwhelming number of wrecks have been reported along major and secondary roads. In Orange County, officials said one person was pronounced dead in a crash involving 53 vehicles on Interstate 40 West near the 259-mile marker. According to the NCSHP, two separate collisions on I-40 and I-85 caused traffic to stop and back up on I-40.

BENSON, N.C. (WNCN) — Investigators are working to piece together how a 57-year-old man was killed before he was discovered dead in the backseat of a vehicle in Johnston County on Sunday. It was approximately 1:06 a.m. Sunday when two separate reports were made to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina State Highway Patrol about a person and vehicle seen in the 2500 block of Holly Grove Road.

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A 38-year-old Durham man could be in prison until he is 63 if convicted on charges of cyberstalking five victims, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. David Ryan Winters was formally accused of cyberstalking the victims by way of a federal grand jury’s indictment, according to a Wednesday announcement from the DOJ. That indictment further accuses Winters of “targeting the victims due to their sexual orientation or gender identity”.

Durham Public Schools confirmed a male officer with the Durham Police Department was at Riverside High School when a situation emerged with a “student in crisis.” While trying to assist this student, the officer was injured and taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

LUMBERTON, N.C. (WNCN) — A convicted murderer of a North Carolina teenage girl has made headlines twice in one day — first for his guilty plea with a life sentence and now for two attempted escapes. On Friday morning, just over six years after the kidnapping and murder of 13-year-old Hania Aguilar, Michael McLellan entered a plea of guilty for first-degree murder. For that charge, as well as others related to two other victims, McLellan was sentenced to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
