A former Tornado volunteer firefighter was sentenced to almost three years in federal prison for defrauding both an insurance company and his volunteer fire department — now called West Side Volunteer Fire Department No. 2. Last August, Donald A. Ennis, 43, pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud. He gained more than $500,000 from his schemes, which he will be required to pay back, according to court documents.

Officials have upgraded charges against an 18-year-old Charleston man who was arrested after a fatal shooting at the Kanawha City Sheetz gas station early Tuesday. Jacob Fields has now been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Tiffany Clerenia Adkins, 42. Initially, Fields was charged with the felony of wanton endangerment involving a firearm and the misdemeanor of involuntary manslaughter.

An 18-year-old Charleston man was arrested after a fatal shooting at the Kanawha City Sheetz gas station early Tuesday morning. Jacob Fields has been charged with the felony of wanton endangerment involving a firearm and the misdemeanor of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Tiffany Clerenia Adkins, 42. Adkins, from Marmet, was pumping gas around midnight, according to a statement from the Charleston Police Department.

The Kanawha County Commission approved $10,000 Thursday for The Fix’Em Clinic, which provides low-cost spay/neuter services to the public. The Fix’Em Clinic is anticipating an influx of clients as the other local clinic, Fix Charleston, pivots to focus solely on services for the overpopulated Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association. One of Fix Charleston’s two veterinarians left for another opportunity earlier this month.
