A variance approved by the Madison Board of Zoning Appeals will allow Telegraph Hill Rykers Ridge Regional Sewer District to move forward with a lift station at 2200+ East Cross Road. The one-half acre site, purchased from Triple D Properties LLC, does not meet the one-acre requirement for a new parcel, which is why a BZA variance was needed to move forward.

Madison Plan Commission approved three applications at its meeting on Monday including two zoning requests that will also need city council approval. The commission voted unanimously to recommend that city council approve rezoning two parcels on property owned by Sheila Raycher at 3483 North Michigan Road from light industry to residential agriculture. Brandon Dugle of Madison Construction said Raycher wants to build a 1,000 square foot addition onto the house.
Hanover buys jetter to address stormwater issues

The purchase of a new jetter is expected to help the town of Hanover better address standing stormwater from heavy rainfalls and snow. Hanover Superintendent of Streets and Utilities Scott Williams announced at Tuesday’s town council meeting that a new jetter has been purchased with contingency State Revolving Funds left over from the town’s recent sewer project.

Ohio River continues to fall after flooding, cleanup underway

The Ohio River is continuing to fall — from a crest of 458.62 feet at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, to 435.88 feet on Monday at noon — leaving behind mud, debris and damage that now must be cleaned up. Madison Mayor Bob Courtney said the city has begun that work. “We have deployed all of our city crews, Madison Fire Department, volunteers, and outside contractors to the impact sites with a plan to remove substantial debris and have the area substantially cleaned by this Friday, for opening Vaughn Drive.
After the flood

Debris from last week’s flooding knocked down the outfield fence and deposited debris at Kiwanis Park. Prior to the flood, the field had been prepped for league play this summer, but now all Madison Parks and Recreation Department games will be at Rucker Sports Complex and John Paul Park.

US 421 north reopens ahead of schedule

U.S. 421 in Jefferson County just north of State Road 250 reopened at approximately 12:30 p.m. Friday, ahead of schedule following a culvert replacement project in Jefferson County. The small structure replace project, contracted by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) to 5 Star Company Inc. for $1.5 million, was initially anticipated to reopen in late April.
