Visit Madison Inc. plans to create a staff position dedicated to group sales for motor coaches and supporting conventions in an effort to bring in more group outings. VMI Executive Director Andrew Forrester made the announcement at Monday’s meeting of the Jefferson County Board of Tourism, citing the benefits of having someone focused on bringing those groups to Jefferson County because of their impact on local tourism.

The gazebo at Madison's Lamplighter Park will soon be topped by a weather vane after the original one was stolen about 15 years ago. On Wednesday, Grote Industries presented the city with a new weather vane that soon will be installed to replace the original. “Lamplighter Park on our beautiful riverfront is a symbol of community generosity and once again the Grote family steps up to support replacing what has long been lost,” said Madison Mayor Bob Courtney.
