The man was driving a GMC that had collided with a Jeep. He and the other driver gave conflicting stories about what happened. The man’s eyes were glassy and his speech was slurred. He smelled like alcohol and was unsteady on his feet.

Police noticed the man riding behind them at about 12:30 a.m. on Interstate 71 northbound. They believed he was speeding. They checked their radar, which showed the man was driving 78 mph in a 60-mph zone. As the motorcycle sped past them, police saw that it had no rear license plate.

The woman was the front-seat passenger in a Chevrolet Malibu traveling eastbound on Bagley near Interstate 71. Police checked the license-plate number and determined that the car’s registration had expired. Police pulled over the Malibu on Bagley near Bob Evans. Three children were in the backseat.

A family member called police at about 11:15 a.m. that day and said she had found a yellow powder that she believed was an illegal narcotic in her couch. The family member suspected the drug belonged to the man and his girlfriend, a 22-year-old Parma woman. The couple had recently been sitting on the couch together.

Police checked the license-plate number and learned that the plates had expired.
