HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Thursday afternoon Hastings community members took a few minutes out of their day to go to Central Park to raise awareness for child abuse. This effort is all for ‘Pinwheels for Prevention’ that includes more than 60 local agencies, programs and educational institutions. One of the organizations includes the United Way. Executive Director for United Way Southcentral Nebraska, Jodi Graves, said the pinwheel is a symbol to unite everybody as one.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Class B Track and Field record books were rewritten Friday at the Waverly Invite. Hastings’ Austin Carrera set a new record in the 3200-meter race with a time of 9:01.62, surpassing the previous record by nearly seven seconds. The previous record, set last year, was held by Norris’ Riley Boonstra with a time of 9:08.10. Congratulations to Austin Carrera for setting the Class B State Record in the 3200m at the Waverly Invite.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The effects of the March 19 blizzard is still impacting Central Nebraskans. According to the City, crews responded to a power pole around 4 p.m. near 12th Street and Crave Avenue after a fire caught due to residual effects from the blizzard. This incident caused a power outage for about 35 residents in the city.

JUNIATA, Neb. (KSNB) - The U.S. Grains Council Board has a new face among its members and he comes from Junaita, Nebraska. Jay Reiners grows corn and soybeans with his wife near the town. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and served in Nebraska’s Army National Guard. His farm also received an accolade in 1992 after getting the Aksarben’s Pioneer Farm Award. Reiners has a history of leadership roles and currently serves as the chairman of the Nebraska Corn Board.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Lib’s Park splash pad located in Hastings is closing for the season earlier than expected due to vandalism. Hastings Parks & Recreation announced the closing Thursday after finding the sensor for the splash pad doesn’t operate properly. The summer spot was originally set to close on Labor Day, but Tony Herrman with the City of Hastings said it’s too close to the end of the season to make the needed repairs. The suspect or suspects have not been caught.
