It’s a special moment in Chicago, as we’re getting two new museums this spring. The National Public Housing Museum opened in early April and I was able to get a peek at a press event; it exceeded my expectations. Actually, I am not sure I had expectations, as NPHM is one-of-a-kind as far as I know.

1 Chico da Silva at Galeria MaPa The late indigenous artist had an extraordinary rise and fall in life, and now in death he’s been “rediscovered” and is one of the most sought-after names in Brazilian art, with his first North American museum show underway in Lexington, Kentucky as a companion to this solo in Chicago.

We asked some of the top collectors, curators and art advisors of the Midwest and the world for their experiences and insights into the art-fair experience. But if that’s not you, there is still a great Expo Chicago experience available. To get to it, don’t do what I too often do, that is meander the aisles, hoping to see old friends, new acquaintances or artistic inspiration and end up seeing nothing. Make a plan. 1 It’s OK not to visit every booth.

One of the most compelling things Expo Chicago did in recent years to set itself apart from the crowded and often generic art-fair market has been to expand its special programming, most notably in creating its curator’s forum.

RIP Bill Zehme. One of the all-time greats in magazine writing, and a Chicagoan. @hannafordjake profiled the master profiler for @newcity in 2002. I just reposted the story which had been offline due to too many web content systems back in those days. https://t.co/ItowwNyaJY

RT @mnaaht: Thank you @newcity & @brianheychicago for letting me write a “dispatch” from NY to Chicago!

Jim is the co-writer and director of Newcity's next film, Homesick, so this is great news indeed!
