WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Congratulations to the class of 2025. I wanted to share pictures from the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce’s Scholarship dinner for the Lead Mentoring Program. Local businesses came together and gave out a record-breaking $95,000 to these amazing future, education, medical, engineering, and aviation professionals. The largest scholarship was worth $20,000. Tuesday night was all about celebrating success. Alpha Kappa Alpha in Waco gave scholarships to 6 hardworking seniors.

ROBERTSON COUNTY, Texas (KWTX) - A lightning strike ignited a fire in a homeowner’s attic off Highway 79 between Hearne and Franklin. Bremond Fire was called out to assist multiple Robertson County Volunteer Fire Departments in battling the fire. The fire started after lightning struck the house, quickly spreading through the attic. Firefighters from Bremond, Blackjack, Hearne, Franklin, and Calvert worked together to control the flames and manage logistics at the scene.

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - In a heartfelt ceremony, 49 Killeen ISD Seniors were recognized for their commitment to serve in the U.S. Military. Each student received red, white, and blue honor cords, symbolizing their dedication to both education and national service as family, school, and military leaders cheered them on. 13 Temple High School fine arts seniors are heading off to college to pursue their passions in music, theater, and more.

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Waco Police are investigating a late-night shooting that left one man dead and left a teenage boy injured in the hospital. Officers responded to the 5100 block of Hawthorne Drive around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21. Upon arrived, officers found two victims. A 36-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and a 16-year-old boy was suffering from gunshot wounds. The 16-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital and is now in stable condition, according to police.
