    NORTH SIOUX CITY -- Garrett Schmidt has been chosen as Dakota Valley's next superintendent. The Dakota Valley School District on Thursday announced they offered a contract to Schmidt for the 2025-26 school year. Schmidt has been the superintendent at the Doland Public Schools in Doland, S.D., for the past three years. Tonia Warzecha, the current superintendent was offered the superintendent position at the Tea Area School District on Feb. 28.

    SIOUX CITY -- Alissa Williams, who narrowly kept her job as assistant principal at West Middle School last year, has agreed to step down after signing an agreement with the Sioux City Community School District. At a special meeting on April 11, the school board approved a resignation agreement and general release for Williams, with an effective resignation date of June 30. The board voted 5-1 for the agreement. Earl Miller cast the lone dissenting vote. Lance Ehmcke was not present for the meeting.

    SIOUX CITY — The sight of Rainbow Snow's circular stand in the Morningside neighborhood is a source of nostalgia for many Siouxland residents. The longtime snow cone stand has been nearly dormant for the past two years, but now it's been revived. What's more, its new owner, a Morningside native who now lives on the East Coast, wants to turn the humble, colorful little stand into a national franchise operation.

    SIOUX CITY -- Non-union Woodbury County employees will receive a 3 percent pay increase in the next fiscal year. The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors voted 4-0 on Tuesday to approve the 3 percent raise for the county's wage plan employees. The county's budget still has a $2.1 million shortfall. Throughout the budget process, the county has built in a 3 percent increase for the wage plan employees for a total $195,000 cost.
