WNDU 16 News Now had a camera in the courtroom for the sentencing hearing. “You do not even classify as a human. You are insignificant, a rapist, a child molester. You are nothing.”Powerful words delivered straight to the face of his abuser. 43-year-old Brandon Rogers never thought he would see this day in court. It’s a day 32 years in the making.

Child And Parent Services (CAPS) is one of them. WNDU 16 News Now met up with CEO and president Rebecca Shetler Fast to get some advice on how to address this sensitive issue. Shelter Fast says as a parent or caregiver, it is important to educate children at a young age.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The WNDU 16 News Now I-Team has an update to a story we brought you last night. As we’ve reported, we’ve been requesting documents showing payments made to the private investigators hired by the South Bend Community School Corporation. We are still awaiting those records, but we did hear from district officials today. The district’s communications director says the two private investigators are getting paid a rate of $90 an hour.

That’s why the WNDU 16 News Now I-Team has been trying to find out how much the two private investigators hired by the South Bend Community School Corporation are being paid. We have not received any documentation showing us how much the two investigators are being paid. It’s something I have been trying to find out for nearly three months.

LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) - It has been one week since a tragic bus crash in LaPorte County. Since that crash, Caroline Klapp with the WNDU 16 News Now I-Team has been digging into the record of Shawn W. Akison. Shawn Wesly Russell Akison is facing charges in LaPorte County and St. Joseph County, for resisting law enforcement and criminal recklessness. The criminal recklessness charge is connected with the crash involving two New Prairie School buses last Thursday, May 8.
