Atkore Inc. posted a $50 million second-quarter loss after taking a $128 million impairment related to its high density polyethylene conduit business, citing emerging satellite competition in the broadband market. Charlotte, N.C.-based Jeld-Wen Holding Inc. will close a factory in Chiloquin, Ore., by the end of the year and lay off all 128 people who make interior, steel, fiberglass and custom doors. The layoffs of 115 people — 104 in production — will happen by June 30 followed by the remaining 13 in production and management by Dec. 1, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filed with the Oregon HECC Office of Workforce Investments.
