SAINT MARYS, W.Va. (WTAP) - Pat Boyles is running unopposed for mayor of Saint Marys in the city’s June election. This is not Boyles’ first foray into local government and public service, as he explains. “I was on two terms of the Council before and I had to drop off because I moved from one section of town to the other, but I’ve always been involved in some type of politics, whether it’s been, you know, getting out the vote or doing things like that,” Boyles said.

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - The City of Parkersburg is requesting proposals for sanitation services. A joint committee of the City Council’s personnel and public works committees voted to approve a request for proposals during a meeting Wednesday. Parkersburg Mayor Tom Joyce emphasized that the request for proposals in and of itself does not mean there will be any changes to the city’s sanitation services or that the city will privatize those services in the near future.

MILWOOD, W.Va. (WTAP) - West Virginia State Treasurer Larry Pack toured the under-construction TIMET titanium manufacturing facility in Jackson County Wednesday, praising the project as a transformative investment that will bring hundreds of good-paying jobs to the region. “It’s just exciting to be here today to see all the investment in West Virginia,” Pack said during his visit to the Ravenswood-area site, where approximately 200 construction workers are currently building the facility.

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - The Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department has received a significant grant from the West Virginia First Foundation to expand their overdose response efforts. The Quick Response Teams, or QRTs, are designed to contact overdose victims within 72 hours of an incident. The teams help connect people struggling with substance use disorder with treatment resources and recovery support. The teams also provide prevention education and help individuals maintain their recovery journey.

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Wood County Schools is seeing positive results in the second year of the Third Grade Success Act. The legislation was adopted in 2023 with the goal of improving student performance in math and reading. It called for changes including more early interventions, more classroom aides, new training for teachers, and stronger parent-teacher communication. Director of Curriculum and Instruction Ashlee Beatty said end of year student assessment data isn’t available yet.
