David Denson, 41, is wanted on a murder charge in connection with the death of Perry Riley, 52, of Atlanta. Riley was found wounded by police shortly before midnight at a residence in the 700 block of Atlanta Avenue, which houses the Park Trace apartment complex. He died at a hospital, making his case the city’s first homicide in 2023, according to police spokesperson Sgt. John Bender. Denson, who is also from Atlanta, is the sole suspect in Riley’s death, Bender said Thursday.

City police said they found the victim wounded at about 11:40 p.m. in the 700 block of Atlanta Avenue, near the Park Trace apartment complex and Ebster Park. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. Few details were available as the investigation is in the early stages, Decatur police said on Facebook. Kory Karpich, 37, was taken to a medical center in Macon and is expected to recover, according to the GBI. Once he’s released from the hospital, Karpich will also face a charge of theft by receiving stolen property after investigators said he crashed in a stolen vehicle. Byron police were searching for the vehicle Monday when they encountered Karpich outside a McDonald’s on Ga. 49 in Peach County, located just south of Macon.

The interstate is blocked between Sixes Road and Ridgeway Parkway ahead of the evening drive. A pedestrian was killed in the crash, which is being investigated by Holly Springs police, according to Channel 2 Action News. Southbound traffic is being forced off I-575 at Sixes Road and is bumper-to-bumper between Canton and Woodstock, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Motorists are encouraged to take Bells Ferry Road or Holly Springs Parkway as alternates.

The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed the arrest of Demetrius Nicholas on Tuesday morning. He was located at a home in Douglasville with the assistance of a Georgia State Patrol SWAT team, according to Deputy Commander Eric Heinze of the Southeast Regional Task Force. Nicholas, who was wanted in connection with a June homicide, was spotted Friday in the area of Juliette Road and Wood Bend Drive by a patrolling deputy who recognized him.
