Sewer work in Coldstream will have a portion of Selkirk Drive down to single-land alternating traffic for most of June. In a news release, the District of Coldstream said sanitary sewer work is underway on Selkirk Drive as part of the Aberdeen Sanitary Sewer Project. Traffic on Selkirk Drive at the Aberdeen Road intersection will be single lane alternating from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday until June 30. Some weekend work could take place.

A 20-year-old man who crashed into a utility pole and through a fence in Vernon Saturday morning was found impaired, according to Mounties. Const. Chris Terleski with the Vernon RCMP said at about 8 a.m. on May 31 officers were called to a single vehicle crash in the 4200-block of Bella Vista Road. At the scene, Mounties found a grey Hyundai had hit a utility pole and crashed through a fence. The driver, a 20-year-old Vernon man, appeared to be drunk and failed a roadside screening test.

The Regional District of North Okanagan is urging residents to plan for a dry summer to ensure sustainable water levels through the hotter season. According to a report from RDNO utilities manager Zee Marcolin, all three of Greater Vernon Water’s upper Aberdeen Plateau reservoirs are at full storage and spilling as of May 30.

The Vernon staging of Radium Girls won big at the Okanagan Zone Drama Festival last month. The festival took place May 19 to 23 at the Shuswap Theatre. Radium Girls from Powerhouse Theatre grabbed multiple awards including best production. The win means the play will represent the Okanagan at Theatre BC’s provincial Mainstage Festival in Fort. St. John next month.

A former cadet camper is suing the Vernon Cadet Camp youth program for a sexual assault alleged to have taken place nearly two decades ago. A notice of civil claim was filed last week against the Army League of Canada, operators of the Vernon Cadet Camp, and the Attorney General of Canada. The complainant, identified only by the initials G.A.C., claims while at camp in 2007 they were physically and sexually assaulted, abused and battered by a cadet leader whose name is unknown to the complainant.
