Forest City police charged a borough resident after they said he threatened his neighbor with a gun. Patrolman Glenn Mattos responded to a call Friday morning about a neighbor dispute involving Mark A. Novak, 62, 510 Hudson St. He allegedly threatened to shoot Christina Barron while pointing a firearm at her, the officer wrote in a criminal complaint. She told police that while she was taking out the garbage, Novak pointed a black long gun at her and threatened to shoot her, her dog and her family.

CLARKS SUMMIT — Residents had a chance to weigh in on solutions that could make roads in the Abingtons safer for motorists and pedestrians. More than 25 people offered their input during a public outreach meeting Thursday at The Gathering Place, where officials from Bowman Consulting Group and the nonprofit Valley in Motion presented data on crashes in Lackawanna County and the Abingtons and engineering solutions for them.

A group of teens stood around the base of a tree at Keystone College on Wednesday afternoon as a metal trap was picked up from its base. As they watched, their classmates and team leaders pulled out a small stuffed mouse from the trap, and the students expressed delight. The activity is one of many that students at the Scranton School District’s STEMM Academy are participating in as part of a camp at the campus this week.

A pickup crashed into a bank in South Scranton on Tuesday morning. The vehicle hit the Penn East Federal Credit Union building in the 700 block of Davis Street, Assistant Fire Chief Bob Zoltewicz said. No one in the vehicle or bank was hurt, he said. Scranton police and firefighters and emergency medical services technicians from Pennsylvania Ambulance arrived at about 10 a.m. and were on the scene for an hour, Zoltewicz said. The pickup was towed.

Pharmacy giant Rite Aid plans to close multiple locations in Northeast Pennsylvania as it undergoes a second bankruptcy. The company disclosed the shutdowns in separate court filings on June 6 and on Friday. The stores slated for closure include four in Lackawanna County, five in Luzerne County and one in Wayne County.
