Customers travelling with Northern can now ask members of staff for a Radar key if they need it to use an accessible toilet. The train operator is providing thousands of conductors and station staff across the North of England with the keys. Customers can use them to open more than 10,000 accessible toilets across the UK, including ones in various railway stations. Northern is hoping the initiative will make it easier for people with disabilities and limited mobility to travel by train.

The National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) is asking people to check their tumble dryers after urgent safety alerts were issued for eight brands (Baumatic, Candy, Caple, Haier, Hoover, Iberna, Lamona and Montpellier) over concerns they could pose a fire risk. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has called on consumers to stop using affected appliances with immediate effect.

Memory bags are now available to pick up from libraries across North Yorkshire, which include items, books, and activities for individuals or groups to improve their quality of life. The bags and their contents aim to promote conversations between people with memory loss as well as their family and friends.

Scarborough and Whitby MP Alison Hume has released a statement about the two recent unexplained deaths in Scarborough. On Monday May 26, police were called to the sudden death of a 69-year-old man at his home in Gatesgarth Close. Officers became concerned as the death followed a similar incident on May 21 when emergency services were called to the sudden death of a 49-year-old man in an adjoining property.

A drunk driver has been sentenced after a high-speed, late-night police pursuit through North and East Yorkshire. Officers from North Yorkshire Police were on the lookout for a white Astra van on Monday February 17 this year, as it had been linked to possible drink driving. A police patrol spotted it on Beverley Road, Norton, but it was driven off at speed on the B1248. More units headed towards the area, and officers eventually located it near Cowlam, heading towards Driffield.
