Fayetteville Technical Community College held a ceremonial groundbreaking today, Oct. 1, at the site of new construction at the Dr. J. Larry Keen Regional Fire & Emergency Training Complex. The site is the final phase of the $45 million complex, located on Tom Starling Road in Fayetteville, and will complete the Burn Village portion of the 30-acre campus.

In the wake of Hurricane Helene and its disastrous affects in the western regions of North Carolina, Fayetteville area businesses and nonprofits are coming together to help organize relief. Cameron Carlotti, owner of Sol’s Arcade + Taproom is partnering with Off - Road Outreach, Axios Inspires Foundation, the Fayetteville Woodpeckers and Litchfield Realty to gather supplies and volunteers to head west to provide aid. “Anything helps someone who’s lost everything,” said Carlotti.

The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles’ license plate agency (LPA) in Elizabethtown will close at 5 p.m. on Sept. 30 after the current operators announced their retirement. The current agency, at 307 E. Broad St., in Elizabethtown, has been contracted to Top Value Auto Parts, Inc., and operated by Gail and Stewart Norris since 1993. A new agency will open under a selected contractor on a later date.

A road north of Clinton will close several times over the next month for maintenance ahead of it being resurfaced. Keener Road between U.S. 701 (Hobbton Highway) and N.C. 403 (Faison Highway)will close at various times between Sept. 30 and Oct. 31. During the closure, N.C. Department of Transportation maintenance crews will replace crossline pipes. NCDOT will alert drivers ahead of a closure by updating DriveNC.gov and communicate with our local partners.
