The event begins at noon on Friday, June 13, with a ceremonial unveiling of the Yarn with Ernie sculpture in the town's Market Place. There will be short speeches by Henry Cator OBE, high steward of Great Yarmouth, chair of Great Yarmouth Town Deal Board and deputy lieutenant of Norfolk, as well as the mayor of the borough, Carl Annison. A number of the artists who created pieces for the trail will also be at the launch to talk to people about their specially commissioned works.

As part of Volunteers’ Week, Princess Anne visited the National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) station in Gorleston on Wednesday, June 4. She is patron of the charity which is run entirely by volunteers. The Gorleston station opened in 1995 and is based on the town pier, where the old lighthouse and Coastguard station once stood.

In January, the government confirmed that the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston will be rebuilt, with work expected to begin between 2027 and 2028. Health bosses say the new building would increase capacity and meet growing demand at a hospital that currently serves 250,000 people in east Norfolk and Waveney. The development would be built next to the existing facility which would remain open during construction.

Caister Health Centre remains closed after the building was evacuated twice in the space of only eight days following staff feeling unwell. It was first shut on April 29 when 16 people started showing symptoms, and it closed again a week later on May 6. The centre has not opened since that date.
