Kyle Early, a Cleveland-area pastor and community leader, founded Mentally Mangled after his own struggles with mental health -- nearly costing him his life. “At one point, I was in a dark, dark space and didn’t know how to navigate,” Early told 3News' Danita Harris.

CLEVELAND — Homelessness is an issue in Cleveland. Good Morning Cleveland anchor Danita Harris called the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless this week and they told her that right now, they know 250 people who are sleeping on the streets. Family shelters are filled to capacity right now. The problem is that there’s not enough affordable housing in Cleveland.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as of 2021, more than one-third of high school students, including nearly three in five teen girls, had a persistent feeling of sadness or hopelessness. But there is encouraging news because I met a young man addressing the mental health crisis, and it's making Northeast Ohio A Better Land.

If you break a bone you head to the emergency room. When something breaks in the mind, believe it or not, many people are headed to the emergency room as well. But according to a recent CDC report, from 2018 to 2020 Black adults visited the ER for mental health-related concerns at a rate nearly double the national average. They had higher rates of emergency department visits compared to Hispanic and white adults across all categories of mental health disorders.
