    United Way of Benton and Franklin Counties gets 5k Donation for BooksThe United Way of Benton and Franklin Counties is giving more back to the community, thanks to a generous grant from The Wildhorse Foundation. The group gave 5 thousand dollars to the United Way to get books into the hands of local kids. It's part of the partnership between the United Way and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, where age-appropriate books are being mailed to kids 5 and under each month.

It welcomed two WW2-era planes this week which also marked the 79th anniversary of V-J Day. Back in the 1940s. those climbing out of the P-40 were war heroes, barely old enough to drink, but now it's just everyday citizens bringing living history to your backyard.

    We’re in the final stretch of the primary election in Evergreen State. On Tuesday, the vote tally will start and then we're on to the November general election. Around 16 percent of registered voters have already submitted a ballot, but judging by 2020’s results we can expect that number to rise significantly, though still be fairly short of a complete turnout. So what’s the deal? KEPR's Dave Furtado ventured to find out. In the Evergreen State, there are just over 300 local races and measures.

    A 21-year-old man was arrested for voyeurism after filming a woman in a public restroom at Whitman College in Walla Walla. Just before 11:00 a.m. Thursday police received a call from a woman who said a stranger was following her. The woman pointed out Maxwell Grady to arriving officers. Grady was questioned by police, but released because he hadn't committed a crime.

    Fire crews from Benton County Fire District 1 responded to a house fire, which they say is a total loss with nothing but rubble on the foundation. They confirmed Wednesday morning, that it was fatal. One occupant was unable to evacuate the home in time and is suspected to have died in the fire. Another resident did manage to escape. At 5:45 Wednesday morning, multiple crews raced to a home off E. Finley Rd. and E 403 PR SE, in Finley, as the fire engulfed the home.
