I’ve had the good fortune to have been a reporter and editor at the Anchorage Daily News since 1986. For almost 10 years now, since 2015, I’ve been the editor responsible for the news content in the ADN. As we announced in January, I’m retiring from that role effective March 15. Well, here we are and the time has come. As of this weekend, I’m stepping out of that role. I have a couple of things to say about that — along with what comes next. Above all: Thank you.

Feb. 2—Here's some news about the Anchorage Daily News: A key person in our newsroom for decades, Anne Raup, is retiring as photo/visuals editor. It's hard to overstate Anne's role in what we've done and continue to do — in the day-to-day work, both obvious and behind-the-scenes, but also in helping define what ADN journalism is. Anne has been at the ADN for more than 30 years — as a staff photographer, then as assistant photo editor, and since 2011 as photo and visuals editor.

This is a big election year across America and in Alaska. In November, Alaskans will be voting for president, our lone U.S. House seat, most of the Alaska Legislature and ballot measures on whether to increase the minimum wage and whether to keep or repeal rank choice voting and the open primary election system. As part of our coverage, we will be asking candidates for U.S. House and the state House and Senate a set of detailed issue questions. We’ll publish their answers online and in print.
