On Friday, Touch Care Ministries welcomed several dozen students from Abbett Elementary School to pack potatoes at Kingdom First Church, 1101 McKinnie Ave. in Fort Wayne. The church will then give away the potatoes in 10-lb. bags, while supplies last, on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.Even with 1,500 pounds, the food doesn’t last long.

Indiana Gaming Commission starts process to study casino move

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — The bill to study a possible casino move is still working its way to the governor’s desk, but the Indiana Gaming Commission started the process on Tuesday. The Commission posted a Request for Quotation (RFQ), due back by March 14, to conduct a study on the potential relocation of gambling operations for the Indiana Gaming Commission. The RFQ would give the Commission options for study authors if the bill were to become law.

Zay bill targets prescription middlemen

(WANE) — While Indiana legislators have focused much of their attention on hospital prices during the first half of the 2025 session, State Senator Andy Zay (R-Huntington) has taken a different route to save the state money. Zay wants to better regulate Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) in Indiana’s state employee health plan and the Hoosier Medicaid plan. Zay estimated the state would save between $150 to $200 million a year if his bill were to become law.

First lady of Pizza Hut, Deanna Freeland, dies at 85

(WANE) — Deanna Freeland, who moved with her husband to Fort Wayne, helped him turn a single Pizza Hut store into 48 and gave generously to local causes, died Thursday at the age of 85. “Deanna loved the people in our company,” said Todd Hollman, President and CEO of Freeland Group Restaurants. “She will be dearly missed by all of our past and current teams.”Deanna’s husband, Dick, died in 2013. They were married in 1957 and had three children.

INDIANAPOLIS (WANE) — Indiana House Bill 1004, which has been called a 2025 lawmaker priority, began its legislative journey Tuesday with testimony before the House Public Health Committee. It wasn’t hard to tell who was for it and who was not. Gloria Sachdev, Indiana’s new Secretary of Health and Family Services, applauded the bill, which would require Indiana’s non-profit hospital systems to charge no more than 200 percent of Medicare reimbursement rates or lose their Indiana non-profit status.
