    LOGAN, W.Va. — The West Virginia Council for Community and Technical College Education voted Monday to take control of the Board of Governors at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College and to place embattled President Pamela Alderman on paid administrative leave. Alderman, a Logan County native, served as the college's president since 2020.

    LOGAN – Night Court isn’t just the name of a popular 1980s television sitcom – it’s a concept that will soon become a reality in Logan County, at least in Magistrate Court. Chief Circuit Judge Joshua Butcher has given the greenlight for Logan County Magistrate Court to begin staying open for evening services beginning Monday, April 21. Magistrate Joe Mendez explained that the recent addition of a fourth magistrate in Logan County has allowed Magistrate Court to extend its hours.

    LOGAN – Several financial requests made to the Logan County Commission were approved Monday afternoon, including some that had recently been tabled due to potential budget concerns. One of the requests commissioners approved was for the annual Senior Citizens’ Bluegrass Night, which is held in early August at the Coalfield Jamboree in downtown Logan.

    For the second time in less than two months, Logan County experienced a significant amount of flooding on Friday, April 4. Parts of Garrett Fork, Upper Crawley, Tim’s Fork, Trace Fork, Caney Branch, Mud Fork, and Mount Gay all experienced high water following a significant amount of rainfall overnight heading into Friday. For some areas, like Mount Gay, the high water marked the second significant flooding event of the year, while the flooding at Mud Fork reminded some of March 2012. kAm{@82?

    LOGAN – Officials with the Logan County Public Service District (PSD) presented a five-year plan on how rates and water projects in the county would move forward under their leadership as opposed to an acquisition by West Virginia American Water. Members of the public along with commissioners had requested the Logan County PSD put forth such a proposal during a meeting at Logan High School on Feb. 18.
