Inspired by the threads and voices woven into cloth and choral music, renowned American artist Ann Hamilton has drawn on Bradford’s textile heritage, and the history and regeneration of Salts Mill, for a remarkable installation called We Will Sing. Running until November 2, a highlight of Bradford’s City of Culture year, this is the artist’s first UK show in over 25 years, and her largest to date.

The young musicians on stage FORTY young performers took to the stage at Bradford’s Latvian Club for the annual Rosie Walsh Music School concert. Rosie, a former pupil of St Joseph’s Catholic College, set up her music school in 1995 with help from The Prince’s Trust. She’s keen to promote young musicians in Bradford. Said Rosie “I’m delighted that so many children took part this year. Everyone had a fabulous evening, I’m very proud of them all.

Says John: “At a secondhand outlet in the Corn Exchange, Leeds, I bought an appealing little drawing by Robert Arthur Dawson. On the reverse of its battered frame is written, ‘Pen Drawing by RA Dawson, ARCA London. To Illustrate the Poem Homeward by Miss Bruce, 1945’. The internet alerted me to Colin Neville’s interesting website Not Just Hockney, and a biographical account of Dawson, whose siblings, Charles and Mary, were also artists.

My sister and her pals had booked something called a drag bottomless brunch and one of them dropped out so, in a bit of a ‘seize the moment’ moment, I said I’d join them. The bottomless brunch trend has soared in recent years, with a rising number of venues serving up the boozy offer. The concept is quite simple; you book a slot, usually a couple of hours, at a bar, bistro or restaurant for food and drinks. Because it’s a pre-paid deal, you can drink as much as you like in the allotted time slot.
